Genome Evolution: A Bacterium with a Napoleon Complex
نویسنده
چکیده
New work on an important agricultural pest reveals an unexpected toxin-producing defensive bacterial symbiont. Surprisingly, the symbiont's genome is highly reduced, with genes devoted to polyketide synthesis making up a large fraction of its coding capacity.

Shotgun genome sequence of the large purple photosynthetic bacterium Rhodospirillum photometricum DSM122.
Here, we present the shotgun genome sequence of the purple photosynthetic bacterium Rhodospirillum photometricum DSM122. The photosynthetic apparatus of this bacterium has been particularly well studied by microscopy. The knowledge of the genome of this oversize bacterium will allow us to compare it with the other purple bacterial organisms to follow the evolution of the photosynthetic apparatus.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a zoonotic infectious disease common to humans and animals which has been caused by a rod shaped, acid fast bacterium, called Mycobacterium bovis. The rapid and sensitive detection is a great challenge for TB diagnosis. The virulent strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) have 16 different regions of difference (RD) in their genome which encode some important a...
متن کاملGene Family: Structure, Organization and Evolution
Gene families are considered as groups of homologous genes which they share very similar sequences and they may have identical functions. Members of gene families may be found in tandem repeats or interspersed through the genome. These sequences are copies of the ancestral genes which have underwent changes. The multiple copies of each gene in a family were constructed based on gene duplicati...
متن کاملAnalysis of Genome Content Evolution in PVC Bacterial Super-Phylum: Assessment of Candidate Genes Associated with Cellular Organization and Lifestyle
The Planctomycetes, Verrucomicrobia, Chlamydiae (PVC) super-phylum contains bacteria with either complex cellular organization or simple cell structure; it also includes organisms of different lifestyles (pathogens, mutualists, commensal, and free-living). Genome content evolution of this group has not been studied in a systematic fashion, which would reveal genes underlying the emergence of PV...
متن کاملAchieving Effective Treatment Goals against New Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) by Identifying the Molecular Details of the Virus Genome
Introduction: We are currently faced with a global epidemic of a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that It affects not only thousands of people in China, but all over the world. The rapid increase in cases appears to be related to the active genome of the virus, which may affect its pathogenesis. An understanding of the novel coronavirus genomic organization will help us in understanding their origi...
